Since April 18th No rest for the wicked in Early Access on Steam. The game is the first ARPG from the Creators of the popular Ori series. Now the developers are reporting on their plans and saying: They are far from finished.
No Rest for the Wicked got off to a pretty strong start on Steam: it stormed the charts on Steam about an hour and a half after launch. At its peak it had over 35,000 players at the same time (via steamcharts).
The visuals and the satisfying combat system seem to be particularly well received by players. One point of criticism, however, is the performance. There is obviously still a lot to do for the developers – but that is also their plan.
In a post on The team has plans for the next 5-10 years as far as the ARPG is concerned.
No Ori successor in the near future
What do the developers say about the plans? In his contribution, Thomas Mahler writes that the team is “far from finished with No Rest for the Wicked.” There is still a lot that they have already built that no one knows anything about yet. And they want to deliver that “in a masterful way.”
Mahler further writes:
This Early Access phase is really just the beginning for us, and we already have plans for what happens after 1.0.
No Rest for the Wicked is like our Lord of the Rings. And to continue using this analogy, what we have done so far is comparable to a “test screening” of the first parts. 1.0 will be our “The Companions”. And as you all know, there is still a lot to do after that.
To be clear, we will be working on No Rest for the Wicked for another 5-10 years.
The team’s intention is to make a major contribution to the ARPG genre. You have always had “high ambitions”. In a comment under the post, Mahler noted with a laughing emote that he hopes the community now understands why the team won’t be making an Ori 3 any time soon (via X).
Ori is a platformer from Moon Studios in which you control a little forest spirit named Ori in a world full of adventures. Two parts have been published so far.
No Rest for the Wicked is intended to keep players busy for a long time
What does the community say about this? A user commented on When asked if players can dedicate themselves to No Rest for the Wicked for many years and still find it refreshing, Thomas Mahler writes: “Yes, that’s the plan.”
Another user comments in the comment on He has nothing against paid DLC, “as long as the expansion is just as big as the base game.” According to Thomas Mahler, that is also the team’s plan.
Promising titles for ARPG fans have appeared in recent months and years. No Rest for the Wicked relies on tough boss fights like in Dark Souls or Elden Ring. His genre representatives, on the other hand, are more interested in hitting hordes of monsters.
