Two consecutive second places gives Maja Stark ample reward in the world ranking. And the Olympic games are getting closer for the 24-year-old from Abbekås.
– Of course I want to be in the Olympics, it would be great fun. But at the same time it is a difficult goal to set, because it depends so much on what others do.
So said Maja Stark when TT recently met her at Augusta National, talking about the tough Swedish competition for the Olympic places on the women’s side.
Stark’s success
Since then, it is Stark himself who has put his foot down properly and taken a couple of giant steps towards this summer’s Olympic golf in Paris. The second place in the major Chevron Championship was followed up by a second place also in the LPGA tour competition in Los Angeles – and Stark is now ranked 16th in the world. Two weeks ago she was ranked 46th.

Stark has acquired a substantial gap in the internal blue-yellow Olympic fight. The two best in the world ranking after the midsummer weekend get to cheer up in Paris in August.
Should Stark manage to climb another position in the ranking, she will in practice secure an Olympic berth, regardless of how well the other Swedes play this spring. Namely, a country can have up to four players in the Olympics, if they are all ranked in the top 15 in the world.
