For four years, Stefan Petersson in the Västra Götaland region has worked to draw up a new agreement regarding rental personnel in healthcare. An agreement that all 21 regions have joined from 1 April.
Hired personnel accounted for 5.1 percent of the total cost of care in the country in 2023. A figure that has grown gradually in recent years.
– The new agreement is needed to be able to make the rules of the game clearer, so that each region knows what to do, says project manager Stefan Petersson.
The doctors are furious
The Swedish Consultant Medical Association was formed just over two months after the agreement became official and already has 500 members. They now choose to decline all work requests until a communication is initiated with Sweden’s Municipalities and Regions (SKR).
– SKR has drawn up a one-sided agreement which in practice is nothing more than a wage cartel, says member and registered doctor Marco Vergari.
Not likely to return
He himself has been to Norrbotten and worked in healthcare. But in the current situation, it is not likely that it will happen again.
– If we, who already have permanent jobs in the industry, are going to sacrifice our vacations to back up care, we cannot do it for less than what a plumber gets per hour.
In the clip, you will hear more about why the chartered doctors are boycotting the regions.
