Seven people are suspected of having published messages containing death threats and insults based on her religion against Magali Berdah. All were arrested.
Seven people were taken into custody on Tuesday April 23 and Wednesday April 24, 2024 for cyberharassment and death threats against Magali Berdah, according to information from BFMTV. They are suspected of having made hateful remarks in response to the publication of a photo of the agent of influencers in Israel, the day after the Hamas attack, on October 7, 2023. These police custody intervene in the part of an investigation opened on October 12, 2023 by the national center for the fight against online hatred (PNLH) for “cyberharassment”, “public insults” and “aggravated death threats due to religion”.
Many comments of an anti-Semitic nature?
As soon as this photo was published, accompanied by a message of support for Israel, Magali Berdah was the victim of a torrent of insults. In total, more than 19,000 comments were made under her post, including “mostly there” as the main interested party told franceinfo this Wednesday, of an anti-Semitic nature. The suspects will be questioned on “cyberharassment which may be aggravated by an anti-Semitic motive and death threats which may be aggravated by an anti-Semitic motive” indicates the Paris prosecutor’s office.
The people suspected of having published these messages were arrested at the beginning of the week in Ivry-sur-Seine (Val-de-Marne) and in the departments of Alpes-Maritimes, Loire, Loire-Atlantique, Haut-Rhin, North and Rhône. In detail, these are four women and three men arrested by the Central Office for the Fight against Crimes Against Humanity and Online Hate (OCLCH). According to Le Figaro, the police custody of one of the women, who is pregnant, has been lifted. A 46-year-old man, suspected of having also threatened to kill on X (ex-Twitter) Jordan Bardalla, the president of the National Rally, is also one of the seven arrested, reports BFMTV.
“Terrorism has no religion”
For the business leader, it is a “real relief” as she indicated this Wednesday in the columns of Le Figaro. “For me, terrorism has no religion. I posted this photo simply in support of the victims of Israel at the time of the events” she defends herself. These police custody also appear to be a small victory for David-Olivier Kaminski, one of Magali Berdah’s lawyers: “If the hatred does not stop, justice does not stop its work to stop their actions either. is a relief for Magali Berdah” he explains to BFMTV. Last March, 28 defendants had already been sentenced by the Paris court to sentences ranging from 4 to 18 months in prison for acts of cyberstalking against Magali Berdah.
