(Finance) – The new Colle Marino Nord tunnel will be open to traffic on Wednesday 24 April, located between the Atri Pineto and Roseto degli Abruzzi junctions of the A14 Bologna Taranto. In fact, the important work programme, one of the most impressive at a national level carried out by Autostrade per l’Italia as part of the plan to modernize the tunnels of the entire network under management, was completed within the scheduled timeframe. The northern fornix of the tunnel, approximately 1 km long, was the subject of a dual program of interventions, such as structural regeneration and plant upgrading, in line with the provisions of European legislation and ministerial guidelines.
To implement the modernization intervention, carried out by the workers of Amplia, a construction company of the Aspi Group, the share of the motorway platform of approximately 50 cm and a waterproofing system for the shell was introduced, a technology not yet in use in the early 70s of the last century, when the project was built. A complex plan which, with an investment of over 35 million euros, allows the useful life of the work to be extended by another 50 years.
The fornix has also been equipped with the most innovative technological systems, in line with the most modern engineering approaches which entrust the newly built tunnels not only with a purely transport function of crossing mountainous reliefs, but make them real technological arteries to guarantee completely safe use by users. As an example, it is enough to remember that the new Colle Marino is equipped with a permanent lighting system and LED reinforcement, with sensors for the management of fire outbreaks, with a closed-circuit camera system made up of 10 intelligent high-resolution cameras. and SOS niches positioned 250 meters away. All plant management is carried out by the Pescara branch management of Autostrade per l’Italia through a special remote control and detection system.
This morning, a delegation composed among others of the Councilor for Infrastructure and Transport of the Abruzzo region, Umberto d’Annuntiis, and a representation of local mayors and representatives of ASPI, was able to preview the new infrastructure, the result of the vast program of interventions that Autostrade per l’Italia is carrying out on the A14.
In the only Abruzzo section of the Adriatic motorway, which stands out for its complex orographic characteristics, Aspi has in fact started a modernization plan for around 10 km of tunnels, which has now reached around 60% progress. For the tunnels subject to plant upgrades, however, almost 95% of interventions have been carried out on approximately 15 km, with final completion expected by 2025.
The work timetable, in line with the calendar agreed with the local institutions, and under the supervision of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, provides for large suspension windows in order to facilitate traffic flows during periods of greater intensity. In fact, we would like to remind you that starting from the morning of April 24th, with the reopening of the Colle Marino Nord tunnel, a new period of suspension of construction sites begins, active until May 6th. The activities planned under the plan modernization will be suspended again for the large window of the summer period starting from May 31st and until the first half of September.
