League of Legends is known for its toxic community. Some players report that things get worse the higher you rank up. They miss the old days.
Since its inception, League of Legends (like many other major online games) has had a problem with toxic behavior among players. In a Reddit thread, players discussed what they find to be an unfortunate reality: the higher you climb in rank, the more they long for their days in the lower tiers.
Toxic behavior in higher ranks
A player who goes by the name Lucia_LA, who normally oscillates between gold and platinum, admits on Reddit that he misses his times in the lower ranks. He actually played for fun, but wanted to play more seriously and made it to Diamant – which he now regrets.
Why exactly does he regret it? He emphasizes that in gold games he met more relaxed, cool teammates, and saboteurs were a rarity. He used to not understand why people kept saying League was super toxic – but now he understands.
The higher he rose, the more often he encountered players who simply didn’t want to play anymore if things didn’t go their way. His teammates would rather deliberately sabotage the game.
Why is it? Lucia_LA explains it like this. Players between bronze and gold/platinum are more likely to be casual players. They play a few games after work or in their free time and don’t care too much about advancing to higher ranks.
He also says the following:
League is probably the only game I regret getting better at. […] Obviously it makes sense that the higher the rank the more competitive people become, but I didn’t expect it to be this bad lol. I’m now seriously considering just switching to Unranked.

What do other players say about this? Many players share similar experiences and find themselves frustrated by the pressures of competition and the increasingly toxic environment. You gave other reasons why it could be.
We have summarized a few comments for you:
What many agreed on in the Reddit thread: Players in higher ranks are often very self-confident, more critical and go into the game with higher expectations. In contrast, lower ranked players often behave more modestly and recognize when they are not playing well. Rank may not yet have that much meaning for them.
What do you think about the whole thing? Feel free to write it to us in the comments.
