SACBO presents the expansion works of the passenger terminal

(Finance) – SACBO presented during a ceremony i expansion works of the passenger terminal which affect the departures area and will make it possible to create the new check-in room, redesign the area dedicated to security checks with latest generation x-ray machines and enlarge the spaces for the departures of non-Schengen flights with the creation of two new gates of boarding.

For the execution of the works, which include the making available by spring 2025 of the new check-in room with the addition of 22 desks dedicated to check-in operations and the completion of the works in November 2025, SACBO invested 41 million euros based on own financial resources. Upon completion of the works, the eastern section of the passenger terminal will grow by 3,720 m2 on the ground floor, allowing for the enlargement of the check-in hall and the expansion of the x-ray control system for hold baggage (BHS). On the first floor, 7,400 m2 of surface area will be added to accommodate security checks, with 14 C3 type stations for analyzing the contents of hand luggage without having to take out the computer or other electronic instruments and liquids, a new duty area free (which goes from the current 600 to 1,600 m2) and larger spaces for non-Schengen boarding.

“It was a process that lasted several years and this was the last step that will, in fact, allow us to extend the terminal by one part where the new check-in desks and the new passenger controls will be located. All with a functionality that is within the modernity of the times”, he declares Giovanni Sanga, president of SACBO, underlining that the “forty-one million euros of interventions are the result of a planning that lasted several months, with a very high level of specialization, because the services we want to offer must be at the highest level.”

“We chose a slogan that summarized the objective of the interventions to adapt the airport spaces, and therefore more spaces, more comfort, faster, further away” – continues the president of SACBO – “An important investment that allows us to always look to the future from the perspective of sustainability, taking into account that the end of the expansion works of the passenger terminal will precede the opening of the direct rail connection with the airport. In addition to facilitating accessibility, with a view to multimodality, our objective is to make the passenger terminal increasingly welcoming, functional and pleasant, facilitating check-in operations and security checks and allowing you to enjoy all the services during your stay. of passengers at the airport”.

The ceremony was attended by the following, representing the Local Authorities: Claudia Maria Terzi, infrastructure councilor for the Lombardy Region; Manuel Bentoglio, mayor of Grassobbio representing the President of the Province of Bergamo; Stefano Zenoni, councilor for the environment and mobility of the Municipality of Bergamo.
