A man was arrested this Friday, April 19, in front of the Iranian consulate in Paris, in the 16th arrondissement. The result of a BRI police intervention after “a witness saw a man entering there carrying a grenade or an explosive vest” at the end of the morning, according to The police headquarters. Surveys are still underway in the consulate premises.
“The man left the consulate” and is “being checked by the BRI”, the research and intervention brigade, the same source added.
The police prefect, Laurent Nuñez, mobilized the elite police unit, because the consulate had made a “request for intervention” to the police headquarters.
The Iranian consulate area, located avenue d’Iéna, in the 16th arrondissement of the capital, is still completely cordoned off. A strong police force is in place to ensure a security perimeter, according to an AFP journalist on site. Traffic on metro lines 9 and 6 serving Trocadéro station, closest to the Iranian consulate, is interrupted, RATP said on X.
