A man who has been illegally living in Canada and dealing drugs in Norfolk County was sentenced to a short jail stay recently, fully aware he would be deported once his incarceration was complete.

Troy C. Greaves, 49, was arrested in February after an investigation by the Haldimand/Norfolk Community Street Crime Unit indicated he was selling cocaine from his Norfolk County Road 21 home, west of Simcoe.

According to details read at his Simcoe Ontario Court of Justice sentencing, police pulled over Greaves and his common-law partner for a traffic stop on Pinegrove Road in Charlotteville and arrested them both.
Officers found 27 grams of cocaine, worth about $2,700, in a coffee cup and a folding switchblade-type knife in the car. A later search of the couple’s home turned up a small amount of drugs in pill form, a scale and a large amount of packaging material.
Charges against the 46-year-old woman were withdrawn in March.

Meanwhile, Greaves quickly pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine for trafficking, possession of a prohibited knife and breach of the terms of a peace bond.
“I would like to apologize to the Crown and the people of Canada for my actions,” Greaves told the judge.
“I am guilty of these charges. I don’t want to be released from jail. I want to be deported at the completion of my sentence. I just want to go.”
Duty counsel Ryan Stewart said the Barbados-born father of two has been illegally living in the area for quite some time.
“In all honesty, he was just trying to make money to feed his family,” Stewart said.
“He’s remorseful and understands immigration will be knocking on the door to deport him back and his guilty plea is likely to hurry that process up.”
Justice Bruce Pugsley sentenced Greaves to four months in jail on his offenses, less about half a month of time served, and ordered him to leave a DNA sample for the offenders databank.
