This year’s salary negotiations are in full swing. Both civil servants, teachers, doctors and the pre-school catering have completed agreements. It has News24 written about before.
1.2 million Swedes demand higher wages – risk of strike?
The teachers’ unions have now completed negotiations with Sweden’s Municipalities and Regions, SKR.
Sweden’s Teachers’ Agreement
And the new agreement provides a modest 3.3 percent salary increase on average for Sweden’s teachers. The agreement was signed on Wednesday evening and was presented in, among other things, the teacher’s newspaper We Teachers.
But no individual teacher is guaranteed a single penny in the new agreement, says Sveriges Lärares’ head of negotiations Mathias Åström.
“Must ask the manager why”
– If it is the case that someone receives a very small increase in salary, we can support the member and raise the issue with the employer and demand an answer as to what this is due to, he says and continues:
– I also believe that in the long term this is a significantly more powerful effort.
Since April 1
The new salaries apply retroactively from April 1 this year, regardless of when the local salary review is completed, SKR writes in a press release.
Many other unions have had a tough time during wage negotiations. Both Vision and Vårdförbundet had stubborn negotiations. The municipality also called for a strike before reaching an agreement with the employers.
The employers congratulate the union for the low wage increases
SKR thinks that Sweden’s teachers have taken responsibility for the municipalities’ finances by not demanding too high salary increases:
– We and Sweden’s Teachers have taken responsibility for the tough economic situation and the agreement follows the industry standard, says Ulf Olssonchairman of SKR’s negotiating delegation, in the press release.
