Israel is said on several occasions in recent days to have prepared to launch attacks in response to Iran’s large-scale attack last weekend.
But for various reasons, they have chosen not to go ahead with the plans, according to sources in several American and Israeli media.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to have scrapped plans for revenge operations after a conversation with US President Joe Biden, reports the Israeli public service channel Kan.
– It was about diplomatic sensitivity, a source told Kan.
The source adds that an Israeli response will come – but that it looks different compared to what was originally planned.
ABC News, for its part, reports that three informants claimed that “Israel prepared and then called off retaliatory attacks against Iran on at least two occasions in the past week.”
Then it can happen
At the same time, an American official with insight tells the media company that an Israeli response will probably not happen until the Jewish holiday Pesach is over at the end of April.
Sources for the news site Axios state that the Israeli War Cabinet discussed on Monday whether to give the military the green light to strike Iran. But the answer was no for “operational reasons”.
On Wednesday, Netanyahu stated that he “appreciates” advice from the country’s allies about a possible counterattack – but that Israel ultimately makes its own decisions on the matter.
