Marika Domanski Lyfors suffered from a brain tumor – big worries for the Swedish national team manager

The women’s national football team manager, Marika Domanski Lyfors, has suffered from a brain tumor.
“We are incredibly taken by this heavy announcement,” says Kim Källström, head of football at the association.

Marika Domanski Lyfors has started his medical treatments and will be on sick leave from his position at the Swedish Football Association (SvFF).
“We are incredibly taken by this heavy news and will do what is in our power to give our support to Marika. The entire SvFF and all players hope for a speedy recovery and will support her in the meantime,” says SvFF’s head of football Kim Kallstrom to the association’s website.

How Domanski Lyfors will be replaced during the sick leave is not clear.
“We wish Marika Domanski Lyfors to recover in peace,” continues Kim Källström.

Domanski Lyfors was the confederation captain of the women’s national team from 1996–2005 and led Sweden to EC silver in 2001 and WC silver in 2003. She was also the confederation captain of the Chinese women’s national team in 2007 before returning to the Swedish Football Association.

The 63-year-old was married to the former national team captain Ulf Lyfors who passed away in 2022.
