The stock exchange is one of Copenhagen’s oldest buildings and the fact is that when it was built, Skåne was still Danish. Denmark’s Minister of Culture described it on Tuesday as “400 years of Danish cultural heritage going up in smoke”.
SVT’s reporter Jane Andersson describes it as at least half of the building being completely destroyed after yesterday’s fire. Although several art objects could be saved, including by the public, much has been lost.

– There was a large library in there with leather-bound books that are probably completely gone. The library had been digitized, but it is far from the same thing, says Jane Andersson.
Cause of fire unclear
It is still not known what caused the fire. However, the emergency services suspect that it broke out in connection with the renovation work that was going on there.
– The stock exchange turns 400 years old and a big celebration was planned for the autumn, so they had to refresh and renovate.
