The conflict in Gaza constitutes a strategic axis of La France insoumise’s campaign for the European elections, but it is vigorously attacked by its political adversaries.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon, present at the end of the France Insoumise (LFI) list in the European elections, will hold a meeting this Wednesday in Roubaix in the North. It will notably discuss the situation in Gaza. The Franco-Palestinian jurist Rima Hassan, also a candidate, will also be at his side. On Thursday, they will also talk about the Middle East at the University of Lille.
But from the President of the Republicans of the Hauts-de-France region, Xavier Bertrand, to the Renaissance du Nord MP, Violette Spillebout, via the National Rally vice-president of the National Assembly, Sébastien Chenu, the tone is unanimous . Out of the question for them to leave Jean-Luc Mélenchon talk about the Middle East at the University of Lille.
Center, right and extreme right have been pounding the Insoumis since the start of the week with two arguments: the positions of La France insoumise on Gaza, deemed anti-Israeli or even anti-Semitic, but also the logo of the organizing association, a map of Palestine erasing Israel , according to LR, Renaissance and the RN.
On the Insoumis side, we play serenity. The association is approved by the university and the management has validated the conference. In Rennes, last week, that was not enough. A threatening email ultimately led to the cancellation of Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s visit.
But there is no question for the Insoumis leader to give up. Because LFI has set itself the main objective of mobilizing electorates sensitive to the Palestinian question, young people and working-class neighborhoods. Jean-Luc Mélenchon has also planned to continue his tour of universities, but also to hold several meetings in disadvantaged areas of major French metropolises.
