France Identity now allows you to make proxies 100% electronically, without having to travel. Just in time for the European elections! Here is the procedure to follow to make one.
As the European elections fast approach, the procedures for benefiting from a proxy vote are becoming paperless, thanks to the France Idété system. As a reminder, the application is available for free on the Play Store and the App Store and allows you to dematerialize your identity card and your driving license to store them in your smartphone, and thus easily authenticate yourself on online services via FranceConnect. After several months of experimentation, it is now possible to make proxies 100% dematerialized. Realize it! No need to travel upstream so that someone can vote for you during the elections! Enough to reduce the abstention rate?
France Identity: how to make your power of attorney?
There are some conditions to respect in order to be able to make your power of attorney through France Identity. First of all, your identity card must already be dematerialized in the application, which means that you must have one of the latest generation – the famous CNIe which, distributed since August 2021, integrates a chip and a QR code. Then, you need to have your digital identity certified in order to subsequently access sensitive procedures in a completely dematerialized manner. To put it simply, you only have to go to the town hall once, and then you are completely at peace.
Please note, the system is still being deployed, which means that only a limited number of town halls are currently authorized to carry out the procedure. According to the Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, this will be the case in around fifty municipalities between now and the European elections next June. He also wrote to the mayors of the ten largest cities in France so that they also apply it. The generalization of this system is planned for the municipal elections of 2026. You will find the list of authorized town halls just here. You can then initiate the certification request for your digital identity from your France Identity application. You will then need to confirm your email address, enter your personal code then read the QR code of the identity card, before going to the town hall to have it validated. The administrative authority must confirm, in your presence and using your fingerprints, that you are the person for whom the power of attorney must be established. Once these steps have been completed, you will receive an email validating the creation of this power of attorney.
Once this first step has been completed and after 48 hours of waiting for validation, you will finally be able to create a dematerialized voting proxy. To do this, go to the website maprocuration.gouv.fr by authenticating with FranceConnect, then choose online verification with France Identity. You will then need to scan the QR code displayed on the screen, enter your personal code and read your NFC card. Everything must be done within 20 minutes, otherwise you will have to have your identity verified by an authorized authority (police officer, gendarme, consular agent) to have your power of attorney validated.
