Twitch streamer becomes a hate figure thanks to a clip that 19 million see

The Twitch streamer Joona became the target of ridicule and aggression on the Internet thanks to a clip on Twitter: 19.1 million saw the player behave in seemingly impossible ways in Valorant. But Asmongold, of all people, saves her honor – or rather his employee.

What is this clip? The clip lasts 1 minute and 22 seconds:

  • A player says in Valorant: “You can revive now.”
  • A player responds motionlessly: “She knows,” without doing anything. She comes across as passive-aggressive.
  • A discussion arises as to why the player reacts so angrily. There would be no reason for that at all. The discussion drags on and turns into an argument in which everyone reacts annoyed. The player says this is typical of playing as a woman.
  • The clip ends by showing that the player performed poorly, treated the streamer in a derogatory manner and ended up blocking him on Twitter.

The clip was then posted with the text: “My mistake, will never try to communicate in Ranked again.”

“This shows what’s wrong with online gaming”

How was the clip first seen?? The clip was discussed as if the player was in a bad mood and arrogant for no reason. She ruins the game for everyone else with her bad mood.

This was a “factually correct instruction via the chat” that also contains tactically valuable information: Now is a good time to rez.

The comments are along the lines of “This shows what’s wrong with the community” – or even worse. “This is why online gaming is so bad.”

    “Extremely obnoxious”

    The comments say:

  • “How can she say ‘she knows’ and be in this bad mood?”
  • “Joona is probably the worst passive-aggressive person in Valorant ever.”
  • Asmongold also agreed with this criticism. From his point of view, these were players who lost and therefore beat each other up. Asmongold emphasized that he never argues online. Because you can only lose. From his point of view, the streamer is “extremely obnoxious.”

This is the clip that 19.1 million Twitter users saw.

Streamer staged scene for more followers on Twitch

But what’s the catch? The player is Joona, a Twitch streamer who is in a relationship with a professional player.

The player who supposedly innocently tells her that she can rez is also a streamer. The clip that is going viral is from him. He also linked his Twitch channel under the clip.

As Asmongold’s editor showed in a video, this was a planned action by the streamer to create a viral clip that would give him more reach.

There is a backstory to the clip (via twitter.com). Here you can see:

  • The streamer recognizes Joona and that she is a well-known person.
  • He told his chat to annoy them by spamming his name in their chat and saying something like “Lightedits is the best.”
  • The streamer also says that he provoked her before the situation in the clip, saying “EGIRL EGIRL” and bringing her boyfriend into the game
  • After the clip went viral, the streamer deleted the video, apparently to cover his tracks, as Joona says
  • Because of this history, Joona reacts so irritably when exactly this streamer then seemingly “politely” points out an opportunity to revive her in the game.

So the bad mood didn’t come from her, but rather it was a trap that the streamer set for her to make her look bad. But all of that is missing from the clip that went viral.

The editor’s verdict: Someone tried to become better known by stream sniping.

While Asmongold is immediately outraged, his editor steps in and explains the situation and the background:

Did that work? Lightedits gained 663 followers, increasing his following on Twitch eightfold. It is questionable whether the followers will stay once they have recognized who exactly they are following.

What does Joona say? She’s disappointed that so many people she actually respects jumped on the hate bandwagon so quickly. There would have been little or no context and still people would have made judgments about her personality.
