TV: Watch highlights from the match on TV4 Play

On Wednesday, Mora saved the first of three match points when they beat Djurgården 6-1 at Hovet. Thus, Daniel Hermansson’s team had a golden opportunity to force a seventh and decisive match at home in Smidjegrav Arena on Friday evening.

In other words, there was a lot at stake before the match and that also characterized the first period, which was edged with more struggle than good play and goal chances.

Thus, the first act remained goalless and even after 40 minutes of play, the nervous crowd in Smidjegrav Arena could tell that the deadlock stood.

The tight match picture continued in the third period, where it was the visiting Djurgården who pressed the most for a winning goal. But neither Djurgården, nor a counter-attacking Mora, managed to break the deadlock during regular time and for the second time in this match series extra time awaited between Mora and Djurgården.

Extension Shimmer

There, the supporters were thrown between hope and despair as the teams created hot goal chances on a continuous basis, but Mora’s Waltteri Ignatjew and Djurgården’s Viktor Andrén held tight during the first extra period and thus the drama continued in Smidjegrav Arena.

There, in the end, the decision would come. After barely a quarter of a game, David Blomgren was able to score the redeeming 1-0 goal after a pass from Linus Klasen in the power play.

– I have had a few chances in the last few games, so it was good to score today. It’s great fun, especially when it’s such a tight match, 0-0 on the scoreboard and then it’s overtime and a goal will decide, match hero Blomgren explained to TV4 after the match.

The victory means that Djurgården wins the semi-final series 4-2. Thus, Michael Holmqvist’s team is ready for the hockey Allsvenskan final, where they face the regular season winners Brynäs, who defeated Karlskoga in their semi-final. For Mora, the loss means that an impressive season comes to an end.
