Blood-soaked vampire fun: Abigail is the new horror film from the Scream team
Instead of a masked serial killer, another iconic monster of the horror genre awaits you in Abigail: a vampire. And this appears in the form of an innocent-looking girl (Alisha Weir) who is about to be kidnapped by a gang of criminals. The film was loosely based on the 1936 vampire classic Dracula’s Daughter.

A secluded mansion, five criminals and a vampire ballerina: these are the ingredients for the entertaining horror film Don’t be stingy with handmade and, above all, bloody effects becomes. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, SFX supervisor Paul Byrne reveals:
It was one effect after another; there was just never enough [Kunst-]Blood in the country, so we were very busy the whole time […] I believe, we have used up Ireland’s entire blood supply. And then we had to get it from other countries.
The mix of childlike vampire and exaggerated harshness already promises an intense and fun cinematic experience for horror fans. Not only can we expect a lot of blood, but also some disgusting effects. For example, a pool of moldering corpses into which actress Kathryn Newton’s character (Freaky) ends up.
According to her, this could be one of the big highlights of the film: “That was the best scene I’ve ever shot. One hundred percent the most iconic scene I’ve probably ever shot in my career.“
When does the horror film Abigail start in cinemas?
Horror fans don’t have to wait much longer. Abigail starts on April 18, 2024 in German cinemas. The film has not yet received an FSK approval. If the film is actually as gory as promised, we should assume an 18+ rating.
The directing duo already has experience in horror comedy with Ready or Not – Ready, Set, Dead. They have now brought together some exciting actors in front of the camera for their vampire shocker.
In addition to Scream Queen Melissa Barrera and Kathryn Newton, the cast also includes Dan Stevens (Godzilla X Kong), Giancarlo Esposito and the unfortunately deceased Euphoria star Angus Cloud. Scream VI author Guy Busick and Stephen Shields (The Hole in the Ground) are responsible for the script.
