Armand Duplantis is a huge favorite in the Olympics.
But one thing worries him.
– There will be chaos, he says.
Armand Duplantis is one of the biggest favorites of the entire Olympics, all sports and disciplines included. Mondo is the reigning Olympic and WC champion, and he has hardly lost a competition in the last year.
Big concerns
Mondo had a shaky start to the season, but has still won every event he’s entered. Most recently, at the Indoor World Championships, he came close to pulling himself out early, but with a knife to his throat, he performed when it was needed most, and he eventually secured gold. Mondo was also close to breaking a new world record in the competition, so you can’t immediately complain about the form.
But there is one thing ahead of this summer’s Olympics in Paris that worries him. When PSG played Barcelona in the Champions League on Wednesday, additional military forces were in place in Paris. The reason is the terrorist threat that exists throughout Europe, which was further increased after the attack in Moscow a few weeks ago. The match between PSG and Barcelona had, according to information, been threatened in advance by the terrorist group IS.
“There will be chaos”
The fact that security has been tightened has been clearly noticed around Europe, especially around major events. There are just over 100 days left until the opening of the Olympics in Paris, and Armand Duplantis is prepared for extensive security efforts.
– There will be chaos, he tells Expressen.
However, Mondo believes that he is hopefully not out much after training and competitions, and that the Olympic athletes will be in a bubble. He is already in Paris for an event with Puma, his shoe sponsor.
– It’s chaotic as it is! If you add the Olympics at the same time as everything else, there will be people everywhere and a lot going on.
