A new app uses augmented reality to tell you where you’ve vacuumed and where you haven’t. Practical for never forgetting a dirty corner again!
We’re not going to lie, cleaning is an unpleasant and time-consuming task for most of us. Also, vacuum cleaner manufacturers are constantly seeking to develop something new, an accessory that will save us precious time. Then, of course, there are connected vacuum cleaners, which can do the cleaning for us. But, sometimes, things are never done better than by yourself. Also, today we find plenty of gadgets to help us in this hard work: screen, laser allowing us to see the dust with the naked eye, exceptional suction… Practical to be sure not to forget anything!
The fact remains that, while navigating between chair legs and under furniture, passing from one room to another, trying to avoid our children or our pets, we quickly forget areas inadvertently or vacuuming the same place several times, wasting valuable time. Fortunately, Dyson has the solution: augmented reality (AR). The manufacturer has in fact announced the launch this summer of CleanTrace, a system which will allow you to scan the room you want to clean in order to see where the vacuum cleaner has gone and where it has not. The goal: to make the invisible visible.
CleanTrace will take the form of a smartphone application, available on Android and iOS, which will show us the places we have passed in real time. It will map the room and overlay cleaning paths using augmented reality, showing which areas have been cleaned and which have been missed. HAS At the end of the cleaning, we can scan the room with the phone to identify forgotten places.
For Dyson, this is a way to make vacuum cleaner owners aware that it doesn’t take that much time to clean properly: “Our research shows that consumers regularly overestimate the time they spend cleaning – data shows that around 80% of cleaning sessions last less than ten minutes, while people say they spent an average of twenty- four minutes vacuuming”explains Charlie Park, vice president of engineering at Dyson.
To use the CleanTrace, you will need to purchase the Dyson CleanTrace phone clamp, which attaches to the vacuum cleaner. For the moment, only the Dyson Gen5detect, sold from 899 euros, is compatible with it. The application is expected in June.
