Olof Lundh’s harsh criticism after the great injustice against the soccer ladies – now demands change: “They are guilty”

The great injustices between men’s and women’s football continue.
Now TV4 profiler Olof Lundh vents his harsh criticism.
– I think you have a debt to women’s football, he says to Expressen.

Sweden has had a shaky start to the European Championship qualifiers with just one point in the first two matches in the tough group with the big nations England and France. The TV4 profile was on site during the last EC qualifying match Olof Lundh and he is now raising his voice for the injustice that still prevails in women’s football.

Lundh’s criticism

Lundh, who is known for being tough on both Fifa and Uefa, is now clearly criticizing Uefa for not doing more. During the women’s football European Championship 2022, the European Football Association “only” distributed 175 million kroner to all participating teams, compared to the staggering 3.5 billion kroner that Uefa will distribute in this summer’s football European Championship for men.

Fifa has nevertheless taken great strides to raise the women’s prize money to approach the men’s high levels, with the recent World Cup in Australia/New Zealand becoming a historic milestone for women’s football.
– In this case, Fifa listened to many voices, the prize money was raised substantially. Although they were not up to the men’s level, the prize money was increased significantly. Fifa also ensured that the players would receive a portion of the money, and that the ladies would have the same conditions when it comes to hotels and travel, says Lundh in an interview with Expressen.
– They have really shown the way, and it’s really interesting with Uefa. I think they should be further forward. There has been a lot of talk about equality and investing in the ladies, but they don’t.

Requirements for Uefa

Olof Lundh is very disappointed with Uefa’s actions when it comes to leveling the injustices that prevail. In the European Football Association’s executive committee, only one invited woman has taken a seat among 20 members.
– I was at the congress in Paris where Karl-Erik Nilsson (vice-president of Uefa) drew the long lines and the strategy for Uefa. There were incredibly nice values, but they don’t live up to them so far, says the TV4 journalist in the interview.

When the European Championship qualification continues during the year for our Swedish national team, Uefa has a lot to live up to before the women’s football European Championship 2025 in Switzerland, Lundh admits.
– I think you have a debt to women’s football because you haven’t invested, he says to the evening newspaper.
