Waste must be put in brown paper leaf bags and placed curbside on your regular waste collection day. Leaves and yard waste put in plastic bags will not be collected, the county said in a media release.

There is no limit on the number of paper garden waste bags, said the county’s website. Trimmings can also be tied or bundled, but must be less than 3-feet or 91 cm in length.

Yard waste can also be dropped off at no charge at transfer stations in Simcoe and South Walsingham. Material can also be loose in trailer.

Mulching and composting are other options for disposing of leaves.

Raking or blowing leaves onto the street or neighboring properties is illegal under county bylaw.

“Leaves can clog sewer drains, make sidewalks and roadways slippery, and can hinder the work of street sweepers,” said the county.
