When Alexander Ytterell stepped forward and scored the 3-2 goal in a five-on-three game in the lead-up to extra time in game four, it was clear that Djurgården had produced three match points in the semi-final series against Mora.
Thus, Michael Holmqvist’s team had a golden opportunity to secure a place in the final against Brynäs before Wednesday evening’s fifth game at Hovet.
It was also a home team that went out and put a lot of pressure on the Mora goal in the opening stages of the match. But Waltteri Ignatjew and his defense managed to hold tight in a first period that was characterized by a high tempo and a lot of fight.
In the second period, it was instead Mora who would find the right – twice again.
After 06:29, Noah Steen found Ludvig Levinsson who slotted the lead goal into Viktor Andrén. It then took barely two minutes before the guests got an opportunity in the power play and then the Canadian Chad Yetman was able to score the 2-0 goal after being cleared in the slot by Måns Carlsson.
Brandsegg-Nygård’s rocket is celebrated
But Djurgården would get a ticket into the match.
With four minutes left in the second period, Mora had another opportunity on the power play. Then, however, Daniel Ljunggren dribbled with the puck in the center zone. Wiktor Nilsson caught this and twisted the puck for himself. In the subsequent free position, he made no mistake when he distinctly pushed the reduction behind Ignatjew.
However, the contact that Nilsson’s goal created was short-lived. In the same power play, 59 seconds after the reduction, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård advanced. With an impressive finish, he found the minimal gap that Viktor Andrén had left and Mora was once again up to a two-goal lead.
– What a rocket he pulls off there. Check that look from Viktor Andrén, he didn’t have a clue where that puck was going. Check the determination and the move in the shot, what quality of Brandsegg-Nygård, analyzed the stunned TV4 Play expert Mikael “Daggen” Eriksson.
Mora held back
After 06:22 in the second period, Mora’s Chad Yetman was also able to send in 4–1 behind an overplayed Andrén in the home goal after a phenomenal play from Daniel Ljunggren – a goal that became the nail in the coffin.
With three minutes left, Moras Måns Carlsson could also send in 5-1 in an empty box before Kalle Kratz established the final score 6-1 with 02:27 left in the third period.
The victory means that Mora keeps the match series alive, which now returns to Mora where the sixth match is played on Friday. The match starts at 19:00 and will be broadcast on TV4 Play.
