Johnny Depp’s interpretation of Captain Jack Sparrow is the flagship of the Pirates of the Caribbean series. It is often forgotten that the iconic pirate was actually just a minor character in the adventure series at the beginning of his career. Pirates of the Caribbean was the story of Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). However, it always was Depp’s extravagant performance, which left a lasting impression on the collective memory of the audience. It was not for nothing that he was even nominated for an Oscar in 2004 and that the franchise was then increasingly geared towards him. Now we have to continue without him. The franchise is being relaunched for this purpose.
Yves explains why a Pirates of the Caribbean reboot is an opportunity here:
Goodbye Jack Sparrow! Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is a reboot | Opinion
There are currently no further details about the exact plans. Basically, all we know now is what the future of Pirates films will look like. The fact that Pirates of the Caribbean no longer sees itself in a dependent relationship with any of the actors stood out as quite surprising information from an interview with producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
A bad aftertaste remains. After being embroiled in various controversies, Johnny Depp’s career has ended up in a strange Hollywood vacuum. Unfortunately, Captain Jack Sparrow’s legacy remains incomplete. Video editor Yves would have liked at least a dignified transition like the one Ghostbusters Legacy gave the long-established fans for the series. Because Opening up Pirates of the Caribbean to a modern audience, offers a new opportunity. Only the circumstances diminish the anticipation.
The Pirates of the Caribbean reboot could revive the adventure film
As a film adaptation of a Disneyland attraction, Pirates of the Caribbean was viewed with skepticism before its release over 20 years ago. Director Gore Verbinski’s production definitely contributed a large part to this change in mood. Hans Zimmer’s film score has now become an integral part of film history. But ultimately it is thanks to Johnny Depp that Pirates suddenly entered the blockbuster cinema of the mid-2000s. The adventure film had wind in its sails again. Maybe it will work again. Even without Jack Sparrow.
