Columbus Blue Jackets’ Mikael Pyyhtiä picked up the first NHL point of his career when he scored the opening goal in a 6–2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.
In the NHL match between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Tampa Bay Lightning, a scary situation was seen when the head referee acted Steve Kozari was carried off the field on a stretcher.
Kozari collided with a Tampa defender in the middle zone Haydn to Fleury, when the third period had been played for six minutes. Fleury was able to get up and was helped to the locker room, but Kozari remained lying motionless on the field surface, where he was treated for a long time.
The 46-year-old referee was taken from the field on a stretcher to the hospital for observation. He was able to move his arms and is expected to make a full recovery.
Kozari is an experienced referee who has officiated in 1,151 NHL regular season games and 136 playoff games. The match was played to the end with one head referee and two linesmen.
Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan said that he saw the situation out of the corner of his eye.
– I think they both looked at the puck, like me. The crash was really scary because Steve probably couldn’t soften his landing. We really hope he’s okay. It was a really scary situation, Sullivan said.
– It didn’t look good. We wish Steve the best. When something like that happens, you have to try to get back into the game as quickly as possible. Tampa probably did a better job than us, Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby said.
The Penguins led the match 4–2 when Kozari was taken off the field, but Tampa held on by Anthony Duclair and By Steven Stamkos with hits to the chest. of Pittsburgh Michael Bunting however, decided the match when he crushed the loose puck into the goal.
With the win, Pittsburgh moved up to the second wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, which entitles it to the playoffs.
