Last year asylum seekers beat Murhaf Hamid, 12, a Mayflower record. Sales skyrocketed after posts about how he was mistreated while trying to sell may flowers in public places went viral. The post was spread both in Sweden and internationally.
In just a few days, sales skyrocketed and the final total ended up at SEK 5 million. Whoever sells mayflowers gets to keep 10 percent of sales as commission. This meant that Murhaf Hamin earned a staggering 500,000 kroner from selling mayflowers.
– Ideally, I would like to buy a residence permit in Sweden, but that’s not possible, he said Swedish daily newspaper after the sale.

But because Murhaf Hamid was an asylum seeker and lacked a Swedish social security number, he ran into problems getting a bank account to deposit the money into.
Luckily, the bank was able to solve it and shortly afterwards he got an account to deposit the money into, even though he lacks a social security number.
– There are a few exceptions in the banking world. Even though the person in question does not have a Swedish social security number, coordination number or other valid identity documents, it is possible to prove the identity if you are widely known in your local area, said Joseph Ben Ali who is Murhaf Hamid’s legal representative, to Swedish daily newspaper last summer.

The family can stay in Sweden
Despite the record sales, it was uncertain whether Murhaf Hamid and his family would be allowed to stay in Sweden. But now the law firm Fridh Advokatbyrå announces on Instagram that the family has received a residence permit, which Swedish daily newspaper was the first to notice.
“Yesterday, Fridh Advokatbyrå received the gratifying announcement that Murhaf and his family have been granted a residence permit. They have been granted a residence permit mainly due to Murhaf’s strong connection to Sweden.”, writes Fridh Advokatbyrå in an Instagram post.
