With Yellowstone, the Western genre currently has a strong representative in the series landscape. So it’s no wonder that Netflix wants to learn a lesson and is now planning its own series in the popular genre. This is what the western epic says The Abandons for the streamer in the starting blocks, behind which Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is the creative force.
While Sutter has already recruited a well-known cast including Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and X-Files icon Gillian Anderson for the project, there is now another addition to the cast, which should particularly please fans of the biker series.
Ryan Hurst has joined the cast of future Yellowstone competitor The Abandons
As Variety reports, Sutter is bringing along Ryan Hurst a Sons of Anarchy alumnus returns to the Netflix series. Hurst took on the role of in the biker drama Opie and played its way into the hearts of numerous fans over the course of 54 episodes. The actor’s filmography includes The Walking Dead and Bates Motel.

In addition to Hurst, Michael Greyeyes (Blood Quantum), Michiel Huisman (Rebel Moon) and Toby Hemingway (The Crossing) have also been added to the cast list of The Abandons. The four will be in front of the camera together with Headey and Anderson as well as Nick Robinson (Damsel), Lucas Till (MacGyver), Clayton Cardenas (Mayans MC) and many other stars.
The Abandons: Complex Western family saga set in 1850s Oregon
The Netflix series revolves around diverse families pursuing their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, where they are set to be ousted by wealthy powers. As abandoned souls, they come full circle to a big family together and declare bloody war on their opposing forces.
Lena Headey will play the role of Matriarch Fiona who was unable to give birth to children of her own and instead took in four orphans. Gillian Anderson, on the other hand, will be the one Matriarch Constance Van Ness who inherited her husband’s mining fortune and has been able to double it since his death. It is not yet known what role Ryan Hurst will play in the series.
The first season of The Abandons will be with ten episodes attend. It is not yet known when the series will be available for streaming on Netflix.
