About 60 marinas are visited by the Swedish Customs during the spring and summer, who ask the boaters for help in the fight against smuggling.

“We need the eyes and ears of boaters to detect smuggling in marinas. It could be, for example, small fast-moving boats that go to sea at strange times or when the weather is bad,” says group manager Niklas Delin in a press release from the Swedish Customs Administration.

The idea is to visit boat clubs and give tips on phenomena to be observant of, for example goods being loaded between ships or boats out at sea, or boats driving at night with their lanterns off.

Anyone who sees something suspicious is asked to contact the customs hotline.
