The opening match of the Women’s Lions World Cup ended with a 0–4 loss against the Czech Republic. The reigning bronze medalist hit the last two shots into an empty net.
Naisleijonat was still involved in the match in the opening set, when Sanni Ahola made solid saves. However, in the second set, the Czech Republic was strong in goal defense and hit two loose pucks into the net.
– This match was not lost to the goalkeeper’s play. Sanni was good and deservedly got the best player award. This game was lost in front of the goal, Urheilu’s expert Mira Jalosuo tightly.
Finland failed in its box out play.
– The player was able to drive to the goal without having played woman-to-woman. Again, on the offensive end, Finland also had its own chances in front of the goal, Jalosuo said.
The Czech got away in the second set
In the opening set, Finland was still in the game, but later the Czech Republic ran away from Naisleijon. In the opening set, Finland was able to mess up the Czech game with its hair, but in the second set, Finland seemed to suffer more from the longer exchange trip.

– It was a great exchange. It is also good to see that there is a goalkeeper who can win games in the tournament. These were two positive things.
There was a lot of room for improvement in the offensive game. Especially with female lions Susanna Tapani the leading number one chain had difficulty breaking into places.
– Finland must be sharper in front of the goal. You don’t win games by shooting the puck at the basket. You also have to be calm, says Jalosuo.
