Senegal’s new president Bassirou Diomaye Faye has appointed ally Ousmane Sonko as prime minister.
Sonko, who was released ahead of the election after being imprisoned since July, is very popular and, like Faye, found himself in opposition to former president Macky Sall.
Faye was the first opposition candidate since the country gained independence from France in 1960 to win the presidential election in the first round.
