Some pregnant women suffer from gestational diabetes, which results in high blood sugar levels. If this is your case, there is a dried fruit that could help you regulate your blood sugar. Find out which one.
Whether it’s because of pre-existing diabetes or gestational diabetes, some women need to be wary of their blood sugar levels, which can skyrocket. To help them regulate their blood sugar, a dried fruit can help them: pistachio.
49 pistachios per day, to regulate your blood sugar
Indeed, according to a study carried out on pregnant women suffering from gestational diabetes, consuming 49 pistachios daily can help control their blood sugar levels.
The study, carried out by scientists from Cornell University in New York reveal that pistachio is the ideal dietary supplement for pregnant women suffering from gestational diabetes. Indeed, it would help to maintain optimal blood sugar levels but also to provide essential nutrients to both the pregnant woman and her baby.
Pistachio, a dried fruit rich in antioxidants…
In this study, researchers also demonstrate that pistachios are rich in antioxidants. According to scientists, they can be compared to other foods known for their antioxidant properties, such as pomegranates, blueberries, beets or cherries. These characteristics of pistachio would also help fight oxidative stress in pregnant women.
…and protein!
Finally, pistachios are also a source of protein. Indeed, according to the results of another American study, carried out by the department of animal sciences at the University of Illinois, pistachios contain the 9 essential amino acids that our body needs to function well. They therefore represent a source of complete proteins of plant origin.
Small recommendation, however, for snacking on pistachios without feeling guilty: favor those that are not salted, to avoid the inconvenience linked to too much salt consumption, such as high blood pressure.
