More than 1,000 Grade 5 students will be at the Burford Fair Grounds on April 9 and 10 to learn more about the agri-food industry.

Bite of Brant is a yearly event that gives students from both local school boards and area private schools a better understanding of where their food comes from and the benefits of locally grown food. It also seeks to increase awareness of the agri-food industry in Brant County and its importance to the local economy.

Delivered by about 125 volunteers including a planning committee, the event features local farmers demonstrating activities like pressing apples to make cider, how to milk a cow and seed planting.
Students also learn more about farm equipment, agri-food industry careers and environmental land stewardship. An educational booth about mushrooms has been added to this year’s event.
A slice of pizza, an Ontario apple and a carton of milk is provided to the students at the end of their visit.
Bite of Brant is supported by the City of Brantford, County of Brant, local Optimists and Lions’ Cubs provide financial support to help transport students to the fairgrounds for the event.
