17-year-old Maja disappeared without a trace and four days later she was found dead. A boy of the same age has been arrested, but the motive behind the suspected murder is still unknown. However, criminologist Leif GW Persson thinks he knows what happened.

– They have had different ideas about what should take place on that forest walk, he says in Nyhetsmorgon.

It was a Thursday evening that 17-year-old Maja was reported missing. Only on Monday did the police begin the search and also found Maja a few hours later. The authority is now reporting itself for not having started looking for her earlier.
But the prosecutor has dismissed it and referred to the police being allowed to come back with a more concrete report.

– I find it hard to believe that it will lead to anything special. Should it do so, the problems will be considerable, says Leif GW Persson.

According to GW, the late action is not particularly strange as Maja was reported missing one evening and just before the weekend. In addition, he believes that the case could easily have disappeared in the pile of reports about other missing persons.

– Mistakes of this nature lie in the underlying problems, namely that so many people are reported missing and almost none of the cases involve crime, he says.

GW’s theory

Maja was found dead in the woods near her school and GW has a picture of what he thinks happened.

– They went away voluntarily at first and then some controversy arose and in connection with that this act took place, he says.

The criminologist believes that Maja died just a few hours after she was reported missing and says that is characteristic of this type of murder.

– It is always like this with this type of disappearance, they are unplanned like deeds, says GW.

Maja’s body is found quickly, which GW believes is a big win in the context, and according to him the murder is solved by the police.

– Now only the horrible remains – namely that Maja is dead, says Leif GW Persson.
