Macron: Putin could possibly be invited to the G20 meeting if all member states support it | Foreign countries

Macron Putin could possibly be invited to the G20 meeting

Putin did not attend last year’s meeting because of an International Criminal Court warrant for his arrest.

President of France Emmanuel Macron considers it possible that the Russian president Vladimir Putin could be invited to the G20 summit of heads of state in November. According to Macron, if Putin’s participation in the meeting would be useful, it should be implemented. Macron stated his position during his visit to Brazil and he answered a reporter’s question about it.

However, according to Macron, the invitation requires the approval of all G20 countries, which would be the responsibility of the host and presidency Brazil.

Putin did not attend last year’s G20 meeting in India because of an International Criminal Court warrant for his arrest.

The reason for the arrest warrant was the illegal transfer of Ukrainian children from the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.

President of Brazil who hosted Macron Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva commented on Macron’s proposal only saying that diversity must be respected in an organization like the G20 group.

In September, Lula, on the other hand, commented that there would be no question of arresting Putin if he participated in the meeting in Brazil. A little later, however, Lula retracted his position and said that the decision on the matter would be made by the Brazilian judiciary.
