The Sami village already applied in January for protective hunting of two wolverines in the area. Some of the Sami village’s reindeer graze in the area. At the time, no dead reindeer had been found, but the reindeer herd of around 800 reindeer had dispersed.
After that, several reindeer carcasses were found, several of which were found to have been killed by wolverines.
The County Administrative Board’s field staff has tracked a female wolverine with one or more cubs in the area.
Now the county administrative board has decided on protective hunting, both of the cubs and the female.
The hunt may be conducted until April 8.
