In a video posted on TikTok, @docteur.urgences gives parents four useful pieces of information about Doliprane and some of it is funny.
With nearly 200,000 subscribers, an emergency doctor, aka @docteur.urgences on TikTok, distils daily advice and practical information on health. Numerous videos inform parents about the right actions and reflexes to adopt with young children. In a video posted on February 15, the expert communicates 4 practical and unusual information about Doliprane for children.
1) Better to choose syrup over suppositories
The emergency doctor begins his video by warning parents that it is preferable to use Doliprane in its syrup version (2.4% oral suspension) rather than as a suppository. Indeed, the absorption of Doliprane suppository would depend on the children and their age. On the other hand, risks of anal injuries exist with this dosage form. The expert nevertheless specifies that in the event of frequent vomiting, it is entirely possible to soothe pain and fever with a Doliprane suppository. Finally, for those who are worried about the sugar content of the medicine, here too, the emergency doctor wants to be reassuring and specifies that the syrup is sugar-free.
2) Beware of the risk of going the wrong way
Giving medicine to infants is not easy. The expert advises parents to give the medicine in the pacifier in order to avoid the wrong route (given the proximity of the breathing system and the swallowing system, it is enough for the valve to close poorly). Infants are particularly at risk because they have a poor cough reflex.
3) Respect the maximum doses
The emergency physician reminds parents to pay attention to the doses of Doliprane administered to children. Indeed, paracetamol is toxic to the liver in the event of an overdose.
To note :
- Do not exceed 4 doses per day;
- The pipette supplied with the syrup allows you to deliver a dose of 15 mg per kg per dose;
- The usual recommended dosage of paracetamol is approximately 60 mg per kg per day;
- Doses can be repeated after 6 hours;
- It is necessary to know your child’s weight before giving this medicine;
- The duration of treatment is limited to 5 days in the event of pain, and 3 days in the event of fever.
4) Doliprane is no longer pink since 2016
Generally appreciated for its color and candy taste, Doliprane in syrup has no longer been pink since 2016. The cause? A dye (azorubine) removed from the product because it is considered potentially carcinogenic. The manufacturer also had to change the color of the pipette because children did not like seeing the medicine transparent. It is for this reason that the pipette turned pink in order to create the illusion of a more attractive colored product.
