Today is the start of the Easter weekend and many people will be hitting the roads. Easter is considered one of the big travel weekends and it is important to find out what the traffic situation looks like before you start the car or jump on the train.
– During Maundy Thursday, the most people are out on the roads. Around 11 o’clock it starts to get going properly and then it continues all day, says Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
The roads where the pressure will be highest are mainly in central and western Sweden. According to Bengt Olsson, it is about the most people being there. Even along the east coast, on the E22, the traffic will be heavy down towards the Ölandsbron. There are also some roads where traffic can be extra affected during the Easter weekend.
– We have a particular challenge in that the E6 is torn apart as a result of the landslide that occurred there. Therefore, we have diverted the traffic to the E45, says Bengt Olsson in Nyhetsmorgon.
But the E45 is one of the roads up to mountain areas and ski resorts, which means that there can be a lot of traffic on that road as well.
Consider weather conditions
If you’re going out on the roads, it’s also important to keep an eye on the weather. In the northern part of Sweden, there can be quite a lot of snow. Although the northern roads are not as congested as the southern ones, it is important to take it easy behind the wheel even there.
– The surface on the roads will change quite a bit. Here it is important to be observant, says Bengt Olsson.
He also believes that it is important to be rested when you get behind the wheel, as well as to keep both speed and distance to other vehicles on the road. In addition, you should choose the major roads because they both have greater capacity and are wider.
Several track works in train traffic
Those planning to take the train to the Easter celebration should keep an eye on the timetables and which trains are running. Namely, several railway and track works are being prepared during the Easter weekend, which will mainly affect train traffic in Western Sweden and the Gothenburg area. But also in parts of Central Sweden. Some part of the train traffic will also be replaced by buses.
