Are you tired of the hustle and bustle of life in France and imagine yourself with the idea of a permanent change of life by the sea? Or maybe it’s the call of adventure and the desire to explore new horizons that makes you imagine packing your bags and leaving everything behind? Whatever the reason, countries around the world are reaching out to those looking to relocate to another corner of the planet, and putting some serious money on the line. Here’s a list of six places offering incentives for s install there.
Antikythera, Greece – To combat the decline of residents, the Greek Orthodox Church on the island of Antikythera introduced a plan for families to settle there. In exchange, the new locals will receive a house, a piece of land, and will be paid 760 euros every month for the first three years of their life there.
Candela, Italy – Expats looking for “la dolce vita” could find a new life in Candela, a small town in southeastern Italy of around 2,700 people. The village hopes to attract new residents with a payment of 1,200 euros for singles, 2,000 euros for couples and 3,000 euros for families. All you have to do is rent a property and land a job that pays at least 11,000 euros per year.
Ponga, Spain – With young people leaving Spain’s small towns in favor of bigger cities, local governments have introduced incentives to attract foreigners. Ponga, a small village in Spain’s northern mountainous region of around 500 residents, is offering 4,500 euros to young couples to settle there for five years. If you bring children with you or have a child while you live there, you will receive an additional 4500 euros for each child.
Chile – If you have an entrepreneurial spirit, the South American country could be the place for you. Through Startup Chile, foreigners can apply for one of their three programs. ‘Build’ is designed to help launch new startups by providing founders with 14,500 euros in funding and a one-year residency visa. ‘Ignite’ offers already established small businesses 36,000 euros to help with expansion, and ‘Growth’ provides 108,000 euros for more advanced startups to help them innovate. All three programs also offer coworking space, mentorship and investors.
Mauritius – An island paradise and a boost for your business? Sign us up! Mauritius offers entrepreneurs 600 euros to settle on the island east of Madagascar. All you have to do is present your business idea to a committee and get their approval.
Albinen, Switzerland – In a bid to boost the town’s dwindling population, the country is happy to pay 31,300 euros to each adult who moves to Albinen and an additional 15,600 euros for each child they take with them. This means a family of four could pocket more than 93,000 euros for moving their lives to Switzerland. There are, however, a few conditions. You must be under 45 years old. And you must either have already lived for 12 years in Switzerland or have married a Swiss person and applied for citizenship. You will also need to commit to living in Albinen for at least 10 years and be able to purchase a house worth at least 300,000 euros.
