The fight against corruption and insider activity in the police and judiciary must be strengthened, according to the department for special investigations, which is an independent unit within the police.
The chancellor, Jan Carlsson, emphasizes in a press release that the crimes can reduce trust in society and, by extension, democracy.
In 2023, 6,604 cases were received by the department, most concerning police officers. Service errors, data breaches and violent crimes are the most common crime categories that are reported.
