The study was conducted by Nordstat on behalf of Tibber between January 22 and February 5, 2024, and contains responses from 1,000 Swedish electric car owners.

Tens of thousands of repentant electric drivers
However, the fact that 84 percent do not regret their purchase means that 16 percent of the country’s electric car drivers regret their purchase. Calculated on Sweden’s 300,000 electric cars, this means that nearly 50,000 motorists regret buying an electric car.
34 percent of these indicate poor coverage as the main reason for their dissatisfaction. The second most common reason, given by 11 percent of those who regret their purchase, is that it is too difficult to find charging options.
7 percent of the respondents that they regret the electric car purchase because charging is too expensive, while 5 percent think that charging is too complicated.

Bet on good range
The easiest measure to avoid regretting the purchase of an electric car thus appears to be to buy one with as good a range as possible.
– Although the electric car’s range has been the subject of extensive discussions, the majority of electric car owners seem to be generally satisfied with their cars. I am also happy to see that the majority of electric car owners do not seem to think that it is expensive or complicated to charge their electric car, which is a common misconception, says Tibbers car expert Tobias Aspenberg.
A whopping 61 percent of electric car owners also respond that they have a better overview of their electricity consumption overall since they got their electric car.
