22-year-old Möregårdh has a considerable collection of SM gold. From the current generation, for example, the WC silver medalist from 2019 Mattias Falck has no singles title.
– Wow, that sounds cool and I love playing SM and love winning SM. It has been a brilliant SM and I haven’t really been threatened in any match, says Möregårdh after 11-8,11-5,11-5,11-4.
It was no big deal. Möregårdh advanced to 10-4 and six match points and took command of the ball. Källberg picked from the backfield and began to give up exhibition play and went over to another paddock to try to save a ball before it was over.
– It was a fantastic match by me and I fight and set. Then I know that Anton can play much better, but I have played badly in the SM against him and maybe that was in the back of my mind.
“Want to win the SM as much as the Olympics”
Källberg is Sweden’s best-ranked player at number 14 on the world’s best list, while Möregårdh is ranked 20th. Whoever is ranked best in mid-May gets the first singles place in the Olympics. The second place is taken by the national team captain. Sweden also has a team in place in Paris.
– I have tried to disconnect it even though the Olympics is a super big tournament, many people think too much about that tournament. I want to win the SM as much as the Olympics in front of my family and friends and with my brother as coach, says Möregårdh.
JO Waldner won nine titles spread over 27 years. The worst is Tage Flisberg with 13 SM gold in singles from the 1930s to the 1950s
