“Stop being so negative”

World of Warcraft recently introduced the new Plunderstorm mode, a battle royale mode that wasn’t well received by many players. The well-known WoW streamer Naguura complains about the negative mood of the players and describes it as terrible.

What is Plunderstorm anyway? On March 20, 2024, Blizzard released patch 10.2.6 on WoW’s European servers, and the update introduced the battle royale mode Plunderstorm.

Plunderstorm is a PvP experience set in Arathi Highlands where all players compete against each other. As with Fortnite and Co., the new WoW mode is about being among the last survivors.

During a match, you can level up by defeating enemies and creatures and gain access to new skills, similar to other battle royale titles.

What is being criticized? However, Plunderstorm’s reveal left some players excited. Plunderstorm doesn’t seem to be well received by many players. The mode is called a waste of the developers’ time and terrible on the official Blizzard forum (on Reddit).

It annoys me so much

Twitch streamer and caster (at Mythic Dungeon International – MDI for short) Caroline Naguura Forer is fed up with the community’s reaction to Plunderstorm and calls the players terrible because WoW players are never satisfied.

What is she saying? On March 19, during a stream, she expressed her frustration with the negative sentiment from players, emphasizing:

I try to be really patient. But [Blizzard] released something really cool and everyone is so fucking negative and it annoys me so much. Can’t you just be happy for a damn moment? […] You are terrible. Stop being so negative. […] The [Plunderstorm] it’s cool, okay?

What else is behind it? Many players are not happy with Plunderstorm and don’t understand why Blizzard is putting the energy into a battle royale mode. They were hoping for a cooler event or content for the actual game. Criticism is also expressed about the fact that you need an active WoW subscription for Plunderstorm.

The mode relies on PvP (player versus player action), which appeals to a smaller player base compared to the PvE content. However, to receive the mode’s rewards, particularly the unique Polly Roger parrot mount, players must play Plunderstorm.

MeinMMO editor Benedict Grothaus played Plunderstorm and is thrilled: A battle royale is exactly what WoW needs right now – I’m serious!
