So you get almost all DLC content for free

There was an angry outcry in the community at the launch of Dragon’s Dogma 2. It was only at the start of the role-playing game that Capcom introduced the paid DLCs to the general public. But how much does the gaming experience actually suffer if you don’t put money into microtransactions? Which DLC content is easy to earn? We’ll tell you!

What are these DLCs that Capcom is selling for Dragon’s Dogma 2? We had already summarized the complete list of microtransactions for you in this article about Dragon’s Dogma 2. This contains, briefly and succinctly summarized:

  • Convenience items for storage, reviving the dead, and fast travel
  • Rift Crystals for purchasing minions and certain items
  • Items for editing your character’s appearance or personality
  • Other items that you can use as gifts, to attract harpies or to escape the dungeon.
  • How important are these things for the fun of the game? Dragon’s Dogma 2 is significantly more modern than its predecessor, but still has some old-school quirkiness.

For example, there are comparatively few options for fast travel. Much more often you will use the ox cart and hope that it is not attacked and destroyed on the journey. Being able to place another target crystal into the world that you can then teleport to again and again can save a lot of life.

It is also important to camp regularly when you are out in the wilderness, as you can only fully regenerate your life points by taking a rest. Encountering a griffin or ogre with only half your health bar can quickly become fatal.

As far as revivals are concerned: Only with a Lazarus Stone in your pocket can you prevent your premature death or bring an NPC back to life. Since the game regularly saves automatically, you rarely lose a large part of your progress due to the death of the hero.

You’ve probably already noticed that many of the items that can be purchased increase your playing comfort. However, Capcom has severely limited the number of items you can purchase. Up to five Lazarus stones or one more target crystal is nice, but not decisive for the war.

How easy is it to get the DLC content for free?

In addition, you can earn almost all items without spending any money. Here is a brief overview of what the author of these lines’ level 21 hero has in his pockets and storage after about 21 hours of play – without specifically farming the respective items:

  • 689 Rift Crystals (although he keeps spending crystals on high-level auxiliary minions, he is literally overwhelmed with the crystals)
  • 7 x storage equipment (you could buy more from many retailers)
  • 1x target crystal
  • 1 x Lazarus stone and 1 x Lazarus stone shard (you need three shards for one stone)
  • 4 x harpy luring smoke signals (to summon a harpy, for example to cross a river)
  • 1 x Broken Dungeon Key (from the dungeon in the first town of Vernworth)
  • You can even get some of these items, like the dungeon key, just by following the main quests. For example, the art of metamorphosis, which allows you to change the appearance of your hero, is sold by Neomith in the first city of Vernworth for 500 Rift Crystals.

The target crystals are actually the rarest. But you can also earn some of them, especially through various side quests.

Is there any DLC content that you can’t earn? We haven’t come across the sound collection for custom sounds in the game yet. However, this only provides a purely cosmetic effect.

We also haven’t found the heart pendant that strengthens your bond with an NPC. Alternatively, you can also give away items such as bouquets of flowers, which are available in large numbers in the game.

Our conclusion: Anyone who spends extra money on Dragon’s Dogma 2 will have early access to useful items that, above all, increase their own comfort. With a little patience, the most important things can be obtained in sufficient numbers.

We are therefore particularly critical of the way in which those responsible for Capcom communicated the paid DLCs to players before the release of Dragon’s Dogma 2, namely not at all.

How do you see it: Do you evaluate the DLC content critically or do you just shrug your shoulders for the offers? Tell us in the comments.
