Adapted from the first book of author Cixin Liu’s Three-Body Problem, Dark Forest and Death’s End trilogy, the series may be one of the new favorites of science fiction lovers. The work, which won many awards, was also made into a 30-episode series in China before Netflix turned it into a series, and it kept the audience glued to the screen for a long time. The publishing platform, which wanted to bring this work to the screen, decided to edit it in the best way possible. He included important names in both the cast and production team in the project. The series, featuring actors and producers from the Game of Thrones team, will take its place on the platform on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

Although it seems to be an adaptation of the first book, some of the characters that appear are drawn from other books. While the story was transferred to the screen, the fiction in the book was not followed exactly. If you have read the book before, this may seem a bit confusing to you, but it seems like a step taken to create the right infrastructure for the following seasons.

Let me tell you quickly for those who don’t know, game of Thrones The creators of the series, David Benioff and DB Weiss, are reuniting for the first time after the series and taking part in this project. This time, Alexander Woo was also added to the creative team. In addition to these, Brad Pitt, Jeremy Kleiner and Dede Gardner were added as producers. In addition, Eiza González (Baby Driver, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw, Godzilla vs. Kong), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, Gemini Man, Avengers), Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, First Knight), whom we know from the same series, Important names such as John Bradley (Moonfall, Game of Thrones, Independence Day) and Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean, Game of Thrones, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra) were also included in the cast. However, as you will notice when I touch on the subject a little later, the series does not have a main lead cast.

When we consider all these names together, our expectations from the project are quite high. However, this series has a special place for us, the actors. Because they are starting the invasion of the world by aliens that I mentioned above, with a device we know well, which is a special VR device (No, not Apple Vision Pro). I won’t go into too much depth on this topic to avoid spoilers.

The story begins with the Mao Revolution and jumps to the present day to reveal its consequences. While cause and effect dilemmas are raised, it brings with it a lot of confusion. A lot happens in the stream, but the producers have made the narrative very complicated so that you don’t understand everything from the beginning. Do not think that this series is a mess. From what I’ve watched, it’s quite obvious that this season is a setup phase for future seasons. For this reason, the fiction and flow prevent a certain character from standing out at this stage. This puts us with different expectations in the future.

I will give information about the subject of the production directly from the summary shared by Netflix, both due to the embargo and to avoid spoilers: “An important decision made by a young woman in China in the 1960s resonates today, transcending space and time. Tightly connected to each other, “A group of brilliant scientists join forces with an unlikely detective to confront the greatest threat in human history when the laws of nature are inexplicably upended before their eyes.”

The flow of the series proceeds in three environments. The first of these is past. As I mentioned above, it is the period in which the action was carried out by the child of a scientist who was murdered as a result of the events that took place during the Mao Revolution, in order to take revenge on humanity. While the questions of how and why are answered in these scenes, the second setting of the story takes place in the present day, and the research highlights the stages where the results emerge. The third part I mentioned is the sections where the first weapon that appears for the invasion takes place on the new VR device. Even though it is designed like a game, it is actually a world where you are the one being played.

The main focus of the story is today’s scientists. The suicide of a major physics genius in a particle accelerator has brought together several of his former students. His students followed in his footsteps and all worked in important companies or founded their own companies to realize their dreams. Now that their instructor is dead, they are the next targets. Auggie, the most prominent among the students, has reached the end of his project to separate parts into atoms by establishing his own company, and this is when his first problems begin. When a countdown begins before Auggie’s eyes that no one else sees, he realizes what’s wrong with him. Fortunately, he is presented with an offer to solve this problem, and when he accepts it, the countdown ends. When the next targets find the virtual reality game that killed their teacher, they decide to try it themselves and become addicted.

While these events are taking place, there are two different groups in the world who are aware of the alien invasion. The first of these is a sect that is preparing the world for the invasion of aliens, led by Ye Wenjie, whose father was murdered in Mao Dervimi in the past. The other is an organization that wants to prevent harm to humanity. Even though their goals seem completely opposite to each other, their paths somehow intersect.

Although it may seem very difficult to bring all these components together while watching the series, they seem to be brought to the screen in a very professional way. When I first heard about the producers, I thought, “Is there a new Game of Thrones coming?” I asked myself the question. After watching it, I got the answer. I was happy to see that it had nothing to do with it. The 3-Body Problem stands out as one of the most talked about productions of the coming days with its completely unique and innovative narrative.

He may have praised the 3-Body Problem a little, but there are also shortcomings that I should point out. Even though I say I’m happy that it has nothing to do with GoT, knowing that the team behind it comes from there raises my expectations a lot. I have to say that apart from the quality and richness of the cast, it doesn’t come close visually. Although the fact that it takes place in the present day instead of a fantastic universe prevents this, the incredibly impressive opening scene and the fact that it is not carried over to the subsequent scenes may cause me to deduct some points. However, when I think about the flow of the plot, I also think that this may develop in the following seasons.
