French President Emmanuel Macron is launching an operation against drug sales in Marseille that will last for several weeks.

Around 4,000 police officers will be mobilized every week in Marseille and surrounding areas, according to a source.

During an unannounced visit to the city, Macron stated that more than 80 people had already been arrested in the first raids. 60 of them are still detained for further questioning, according to the president.

“In Marseille and other cities in France, we have launched an unprecedented effort to stop drug trafficking,” writes Macron on X.

Macron says that the situation with the drug trade is difficult, and that France is in a “battle” against the drug dealers.
