Survival game with vampires is a hit on Steam, announces PS5 release and new features

V Rising has been a huge success since its release in Early Access in 2022. The 1.0 version is scheduled to appear in May, followed shortly afterwards by the release for PS5 – exclusively on consoles. Even now, 2 years after release, the game has over 6,000 players on Steam.

When does V Rising come out? V Rising’s 1.0 release is scheduled for May 8, 2024. The PS5 version is scheduled to appear this year, but there is still no specific date.

V Rising has been in early access since May 17, 2022 and has since been provided with patches and updates and even received a large expansion with Frankenstein monsters.

With the 1.0 release, more features come into play, including:

  • a new zone, the Ruins of Mortium
  • the final chapter of the story
  • Endgame events
  • new enemies and bosses
  • new weapons
  • Improvements to construction, magic and more
  • native controller support

    On Steam, V Rising already has a rating of “very positive” with 88% positive reviews. What excites most players is the freedom that V Rising offers. In particular, the ability to build and design real vampire castles and the different ways to fight appeal to people.

    V Rising relies on an isometric action combat system, roughly similar to Diablo. Stunlock Studios, the creators, have previously worked on Bloodline Champions, which was celebrated for this combat system.

    It’s also particularly good that you get to play the “other” side of survival games. As a vampire, you are the threat and hunt people. The night is not more dangerous, but rather the only way for you to get out because the sun burns you. In most games it’s the other way around.

    The biggest criticism is that the game requires a lot of grinding. Especially later in the game you need a lot of materials to supply yourself or to expand further. Here you have to tweak the settings of your server to save time – which is not possible in public games.

    You can play V Rising either alone, in co-op on a local or rented server, or with others on official players. However, the game relies on PvP, at least in many settings, which could particularly put off new players.
