Adventure Classic: That’s why the title of Stand by Me differs from the Stephen King original

The film is closely based on the literature that is based on the Short story The Body is based. The original title probably sounds a bit misleading and more like a typical King horror spectacle than a summer adventure. That the title changed to Stand by Me and the Song of the same name by Ben E. King becoming the theme song may be thanks to River Phoenix and Kiefer Sutherland, as Screen Rant reported last year.

Phoenix was learning to play guitar at the time and practiced hard during breaks from filming. Sutherland then showed him the song Stand by Me and the two were singing together when director Rob Reiner walked by and said: “Oh, I haven’t heard this song in ages. I love him.” So it’s quite possible that the two young actors provided the inspiration for the new title.
