Cross-country skiing: Linn Svahn was celebrated big for the cup victory – but gets zero kroner in prize money

The winner of the overall World Cup this year receives around SEK 700,000, and the 20 best riders get to share in the prize pool of just over three million.

But if you win the sprint cup, the sum is zero kroner.

Linn Svahn, who wins it for the second time in her career, does not attach much importance to it.

– It’s not something I think about actually.

“Got it posted”

On the other hand, she is happy that she got to receive the trophy in front of cheering teammates after the last sprint of the season in Falun.

– I haven’t thought much about it this year. But it’s nice to get it at home. I had it mailed to my home a few years ago. So it was fun to receive it live.

Maja Dahlqvist has had a rough season this year but won the cup both last year and the year before. She thinks it is strange that the prize money is missing.

– It’s a bit special. It’s still a big deal to win, especially for a sprinter. You could have had that.

But you can’t go completely without luck, she says.

– There are quite a lot of bonus systems around with suppliers and partners. So it still pays to win…

“National team manager: “Pity”

National team manager Anders Byström calls it a “pity” that the prize sum is zero, but is satisfied that the sprint cup is won by a Swede for the third year running.

– It is a great honor to win and a great trophy. We have to take it for what it is. It’s great that we’re bringing it home again.
