DE BILT – De Bilt will receive Ukrainian refugees in the town hall. The municipality will equip the top floor of the municipal office for the temporary accommodation of up to 60 Ukrainian refugees.

The municipal office is intended for temporary shelter. After that, Ukrainian refugees move on to a location for a longer period of time. The Ukrainians who are received at the municipal office of De Bilt are currently staying in the Jaarbeurs or in hotels, where they only stay for a few days or weeks.

“These people have experienced terrible things,” said Mayor Sjoerd Potters. “They need a safe place to stay and sometimes also medical care and professional guidance. The people and resources are available at the town hall to help them.”

Municipal office adjustment

The offices on the top floor of the municipal office will be removed for bedrooms, a kitchen and a living and play area. In addition, activities for children and education are being worked on. Residents of De Bilt can simply go to the counter of the town hall for social matters. The wedding room will also remain available for weddings.

The municipality has announced that dozens of people from De Bilt are prepared to take refugees into their homes or have already taken care of people. Options have also been suggested, such as holiday homes and office buildings. De Bilt is currently investigating where long-term residence is possible.

People who want to help refugees in a different way are requested to email their offer to [email protected].
