A conspiracy theory about Brigitte Macron unearthed by the American far right

A journalist, a big supporter of Donald Trump, says she is convinced that Brigitte Macron has a well-kept secret. Fake news spreading in the United States.

Since 2021, fake news has targeted Brigitte Macron. According to this completely false rumor, the president’s wife is actually a transgender woman. She was born under the name Jean-Michel Trogneux and did everything to hide it by inventing a brother. This conspiracy theory has just resurfaced three years later in the United States. Candace Owens, an American journalist, released a video on YouTube on March 11 in which she discusses what she describes as “the biggest political scandal in the history of humanity.” It includes elements published in Facts & Documentsa publication known for its anti-Semitism, which launched fake news in France.

Candice Owens is convinced that this rumor was true: “After studying the question, I would stake my entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron is in fact a man”. Thus, she reiterates the arguments that were presented at the time: there would be very few photos of Brigitte Macron younger and that of the few family photos available, she would be “the double” of her brother.

The American presenter also assures that “the state media are covering the story”. She then attacks the French presidential couple: “What is happening is that two individuals have been selected to be the leaders of a nation. They have been selected on the principle of blackmail.” By pushing her conspiracy theory, Candace Owens claims that Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron are in fact manipulated by other entities, without ever saying which ones it is: “They selected these two individuals, because they can control them, because they created the wife, because they know the history. They can therefore say, this is what you are going to do, Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte, you are going to pass these laws, and there is nothing you can’t do anything about it, because we control you.”.

As put forward Numerama, this video is not coming out at any time: the European and American elections are approaching, especially since such accusations are anchored in transphobic discourse. In addition, Candice Owen is a 34-year-old journalist who does not hesitate to show her support for Donald Trump, who will be a candidate for president again in November. She also helped spread allegations that former President Barack Obama was secretly gay.

This video also appears when Emmanuel Macron raised the subject last Friday at the microphone of TF1 : “It’s false information and scenarios created with people who end up believing it. And who upset you, including in your privacy.” The head of state did not wish to provide further details, however assuring that he “denounced and was outraged” by such comments.
